About The Dominican Life Style My Dominican Tropical Homestead |
|
Dominican Lifestyle On this island you do not know for sure if you will have gasoline, propane, diesel or electricity from one week to the next. I have witnessed the island being out of gasoline for two days awaiting a tanker to arrive. I have seen shortages for propane and electricity has been a joke for decades. This is all under normal conditions. Imagine an earthquake, a total break down in the economy or any other problems. In a perfect world the electricity would always work but that just don't happen here. Actually in a sick sense that works to my benefit. As I have to be prepared for the day to day multi rolling black outs I am forced to be prepared for long term shortages. In my house I have a 2.4 KW inverter with a bank of 8 deep cycle batteries. I have a 4.4 KW generator that I use to charge my batteries. If I am careful with what I run I can get by throughout most of the day with out power. However I find it easier just to fire up the generator and continue with my life and let the batteries carry me through the night when all I really need is fans and lights. I use about a gallon of gasoline a day during the worst black outs to keep going. What you do is get an electrician to install you inverter to be charged from the grid. Have selected circuits fed by the inverter during power outages and then also have a switch installed that lets you hook up your generator. This lets you charge batteries and have quit at night through prolonged black outs.
So follow the process as I build my Dominican Tropical Homestead off the grid power system.
