About The Dominican Life Style My Dominican Tropical Homestead |
|
Dominican Lifestyle Now I wish I could say I knew everything about aquaponics but I do not. Like most homesteaders I am a jack of all trades and master of none. I do not have some degree in bioengineering or been to some land grant college to learn what my grandma treated as common sense. So I read and I experiment and this is just a touch of what I did over the phone from the sand box with people who did not want to be bothered. This was a floating raft system made by putting a pond liner in side a dry laid double stack blocks. The pond that was about 12 X5 ft and 1 ft deep. I had a 3000 gal an hour fountain pump going into a gravel biofilter and retuning to the pond with small fountain pump going into a plastic tank with a double thick sheet of Styrofoam for a raft. I used a soup can heated on the stove top to cut the holes in the Styrofoam. This system was set up only three months but take a look. The fish were 8 river caught tilapia that were just put in the system and fed table scraps. They have multiplied like crazy and now I have them in a swimming pool with some native catfish to keep them thinned down.
